Fiction on Friday 1: The Fire
Jonathan peered into the hut. He’d thought the mage would be a wizened old woman but it was a very ordinary young man who turned to look at him.
“You want to undo a great wrong you’ve done,” the mage said as though he were doing something as ordinary as offering Jonathan a seat. “Or so my fire tells me.”
“Your… Your fire?” Jonathan asked, his mouth suddenly dry.
“Yes,” the mage said with a rueful shrug. “It’s a terrible gossip, you see.”
A shower of sparks erupted out of the fireplace and nearly set fire to the hearth rug.
